Eliminate startup program clutter in Windows 11 with Task Manager

Disabling startup programs for power users

For power users, the easiest way to disable startup programs is through the Task Manager. Here’s how:

  • Press the Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys at the same time to open the Task Manager
  • Or right click on the taskbar and choose Task Manager
  • Click on the “Startup” tab
  • Select the program you want to disable and click the “Disable” button

This will prevent the selected program from running when Windows starts up.

Disabling startup programs for advanced users

For advanced users, there are several other methods for disabling startup programs in Windows 11. One method is to use the System Configuration Utility (also known as “msconfig“). Here’s how:

  • Press the Windows + R keys to open the “Run” dialog
  • Type msconfig and press Enter
  • Click on the “Startup” tab
  • Uncheck the box next to the program you want to disable
  • Click “OK” and then restart your computer

This will prevent the selected program from running when Windows starts up.

Another method is to use the Registry Editor. Here’s how:

  • Press the Windows + R keys to open the “Run” dialog
  • Type regedit and press Enter
  • Navigate to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Run
  • Right-click on the program you want to disable and select “Delete”
  • Close the Registry Editor and restart your computer

This will also prevent the selected program from running when Windows starts up.
